According to statistics on July 20, market volume of total Chinese home appliances topped around 769.7 billion RMB (US$120.3 billion) in the first half of 2015, up 4.3% compared to the same period of last year. Amid the lukewarm market demand in the first half, sales of washing machines still managed to grow almost 7% year-on-year, excelling that of LCD TVs, refrigerators and air conditioners. Looking closely at washing machines, almost 60% of those sold in China were automatic tumbling-box washing machines. Two key highlights are that the rise of e-commerce has set off a boom in the washing machine market and that there are an increasing number of washing machines being smartened up in 2015.
